Beheading of St.John the Baptist church in Godula

Before the church in Godula was constructed the inhabitants of the settlement from 1861, thanks to the efforts of rev. Józef Szafranek, attended the masses at the St. Joseph chaple arranged in the local school. In March 1866 in Godula there was established independent parish of which the first vicar with a title of curator was rev. Fryderyk Hofrichter. Due to the growing number of the parishioners  there were attempts made to build a church in Godula. The beheading of St. John the Baptist church was built by financing by the family Schaffgotsch  in the years 1868-1871.

The design of the object was created in two phases – in 1865 there was created a design by Juliusz Raschdorff,  the architect who designed cathedral in Berlin, the design was a basis for the final one that was worked out by Carl Heidenreich. The church was created on the basis of neo-Gothic style -  it is well-seen in such architectonic details as high, closed with sharp arches, tampering  abutments surrounding the building or in the use above the main portal  of so-called  wimpergs that is decorative crownings in shape of high triangle. The church was consecrated on 14th of November 1871 in the presence of the church founders Joanna and Hans Ulrich Schaffgotsch.
